We, Nomura Trading Co., Ltd., trace our origins to the Nomura South Sea Enterprise Division, founded in 1917 as one of the business entities within the former Nomura conglomerate, founded itself in 1904 by Tokushichi Nomura. In 1951, at the end to the Second World War, the Nomura South Sea Enterprise Division endeavored to make new beginnings as a trading company. Remaining true the pioneering spirit of the founder, the new trading company dedicated itself to cultivating new markets, building a wider-ranging product lineup, and expanding its network worldwide.
In July, 2005 we, Nomura Trading Group, drew up a corporate philosophy based on the words carried down from our founder; “Trust is the basis of all business,” “We will not pursue profit; we will pursue trust,” “We take the interests of our customers over our own,” and “Makujiku Shinzen” which means, “pursue your goals aggressively.” Upholding this corporate philosophy, we have dedicated ourselves to serving our customers and adapting to a rapidly changing environment.
In April, 2010, we began our Middle Term Management Plan 2013, whose fundamental aims are (1) the accumulation of high quality assets, (2) the development of human resources, and (3) the improvement of our management system. We will implement a variety of measures intended to improve the quality of profits for sustainable growth and, contribute to the realization of a materially and spiritually wealthy society. Additionally, we used the opportunity of the implementation of the above mentioned middle term management plan to reorganize our management system on June 25, 2010.
We find ourselves facing great changes globally. The worldwide economic downturn, triggered by the financial crisis in the second half of 2008, has momentarily stabilized and newly developed countries, such as China and India, have emerged as leading powers in the world economy.
We believe that this time of change is an excellent opportunity to demonstrate our pioneering spirit, the legacy of our founder. We will keep striving to better the world and brighten the future by focusing on the needs of our customers, innovating new business ideas, and finding solutions.
